Schwinn Mountain Bike

Question: Im trying to fix my schwinn mountain bike (rear derailleur problem)?

My brother somehow managed to destroy my rear derailleur (shimano tourney sis index) and i tried to switch it with the part off of his bike. He has a cheapy Falcon index system, but it doesnt seem to fit my bike. is there something i can do to adjust it or will i just need a new shimano tourney?

You have to use a Shimano Derailleur so that it works with your shifter. And you have to get a derailleur that is the same 5,6,7, or 8 speed derailleur. You can not put a 5 speed on a 6 speed and visa versa. Leave your brothers derailleur on his bike. Just fix yours! You most likely just need to readjust your cable and derailleur screws.
