Schwinn Hybrid Bikes

Question: Are schwinn hybrid bikes good?

Schwinn Voyageur 7 Speed Women's Hybrid Bike Yellow is this a good bike or would a raleigh caprice or a dawnes duchess be better? going to be using it to commute about, any advice would be so appreciated! thank you!

I own a Schwinn hybrid and it's been OK, but it was a different model. It was a $350 retail bike that I got on sale for $300, intended for light duty on smooth off-road trails. I had to replace the bottom bracket after a year, about a $55 repair. Other than that, no problems except normal wear and maintenance. One thing to remember about bikes is that any two bikes that cost the same are very likely to be equivalent values because the business is so competitive. Bikes that cost the same are usually built the same and have the same level components. Given the state of the market, they were probably built in the same factory. The only way to really tell which bike is best for you is to test ride them. Pick the one that you like to ride the best regardless of the name on it. HTH

The Schwinn is a decent bike, especially for the money. Should be a fine commuter. The Duchess looks better to me. I like the steel frame, and the trigger shifter should be more reliable than the twist shifter on the Voyager. Better styling, too. No info on the Raleigh here. If it's a typical Raleigh, I'd pass. Whatever you get, make sure it fits you nicely. Also, buy from a shop with friendly and competent staff. Bikes are simple machines, but they do require some basic care.

While a Voyager 7 is a step above your typical "discount store Schwinn ", the Raleigh you mentioned is NOT found on the Raleigh Australia web site. All I could find on it was from discount & dept. stores. RUN away. And I am a HUGE supporter of Raleigh bicycles - but only from real bicycle shops. Long story made short... If you want a real bicycle - see a real bicycle shop. Find the one that rides the best & "feels " the best to you after an extensive test ride. Buy that one.

Comfort and hybrid bikes, including the Schwinn Avenue Hybrid are an excellent choice for casual and comfortable bike rides, commuting and occasional longer distance (bike path or touring) rides.
